Fun in the Snow

One of the biggest snowstorms in decades hit Portland. I heard a lawnmower-like sound from my bedroom window, and I peeked out to look. This is what I saw. Pure Awesome, in frozen form.

Remember, when shooting in the snow, or very bright conditions in the overall scene, always pay attention to your exposure. In most snow pictures, you want to overexpose (unless you are using the spot meter) because most camera light meters will try to meter for 18% grey. Snow is clearly brighter and whiter than that. Overexposing in the default metering mode by about 1.5-2 stops should get it pretty close to what the correct exposure needs to be.

Shot with my D700 + 85mm 1.4 @ f/2, ISO 200
